COLTON'S GREEN SOCKS FOUNDATION

Colton’s Green Socks Foundation was established in memory of Colton Ferree, who passed away on March 22, 2020.  Colton was a bright light in this world who loved to participate in many activities and always made sure everyone felt included and was having the best time.  From dance to show choir to plays to baseball to skiing to track – you name it, Colton was involved.

The goal of this 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation is to keep Colton’s spirit alive by providing youth scholarships to various activities so that the joy, memories made, and incredible life lessons these opportunities provide can be shared with others indefinitely and by doing so, keep Colton’s light shining forever.

How did we come up with the name, Colton’s Green Socks Foundation?  Growing up the child of a dance studio owner means pretty much having to figure things out on your own when it comes to getting your costumes on since your mom is busy running the show.  Often times that meant Colton would come out with the wrong pants or shirt on during a dress rehearsal and he’d hear me say from the microphone in the audience “Colton, those are your lyrical pants” or “Colton, that’s the shirt for hip hop” and he’d give me a smile and a thumbs up and say, “Got it mom!” and then he’d have it fixed by show time.  Socks were never an issue though because for boys we always went with black socks – they were easy to find and easy to match since boys typically wore black pants and shoes for costumes.  One year during recital – the actual performance – I am in the wings and look over to see Colton on stage dancing in GREEN SOCKS!  GREEN!  I couldn’t believe it.  He comes off stage and I say, “Colton!  You have green socks on!”  He looks down and starts giggling when he sees them and says, “Oops, sorry mom!” and then runs off to get changed for the next number.  And that was how Colton handled everything in life – filled with joy and loving every moment of those green socks. 😊
